Our history
Play Media Company evolved from long running Play Press Publishing, which was founded in january 1998 and soon became an italian leading publisher for videogames, computer, home entertainment and comics magazines.
Today Play Media Company is still going strong.
Beginning with videogames titles, in 2002 it signed an important agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment Italy and became an official partner publisher for Sony PlayStation.
A market leading publisher in the videogame sector, the company has also explored developing paths in the computing and entertainment sectors, exploiting market opportunities and enhancing its editorial offer. We also acquired a license agreement for Italy for some of the best selling mangas realized by preeminent japanese publishing houses. As the new market trends suggest to diversify the offer on the newsstands, we enhanced our entertainment area by publishing special interest DVD series. The most important new of 2004 was the monthly issue on DVD of CSI: one of the most successful tv serials of the latest years.
Play Media Company became a leading publisher in the computing sector after acquiring some important titles, e.g. Quantum Editore and its magazine Total Computer, the long running magazine Chip (an international brand belonging to Vogel Burda Communication) and expecially after acquiring a license for Windows Vista directly from Microsoft. Today Play Media Company strongly aimes at confirming its leadership.
Play Media Company is not going to stop its expansion. Last year it published GolfPunk, the first men's lifestyle magazine (under license agreement from english publishing house KYN). In may 2007 it will launch the women's magazine Notebook, addressed to women interested in new trends and life quality.
The web
Aware of the fast growing role played by Internet in gathering and exchanging ideas and information, Play Media Company launched a new improved version of its website www.playmediacompany.it. Some experimental website projects in the videogame area were also created in 2005. www.psmania.it is a complementary website of PS Mania 3.0, the best selling indipendent magazine for PS2; www.spaccacodici.it is a website with a partly user-created content which aims at creating a lively community of hard-core gamers. In 2006 our men's lifestyle magazine went online with the new
www.golfpunk.it
website, and we launched and our most ambitious project: www.gamerepublic.it.
www.gamerepublic.it. is a new portal bringing the most preeminent multiplatform magazine's brand in Italy which aims at becoming the reference point for all videogamers.
Our numbers
Due to its continued growth, today Play Media Company employs more than 80 people and has a network of 150 collaborators. Our will is now to make these numbers rise.
To achieve this goal we decided to enhance our office in Milan, which is now hosting our computing and lifestyle editorial boards together with the commercial offices for computer and and internet areas.
